St. Stephen's is blessed to have a very special guest to kick off our mid-week Advent programs, as Brother Michael Gallagher, OSB will lead us in an evening of Advent singing. Brother Michael is an accomplished musician and a great friend of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, and we are delighted that he has agreed to be our guest for dinner, after which he will lead us in singing some of our favorite Advent Hymns, as well as teaching us easy and joyful ways to sing psalms and canticles that are near and dear to our Anglican hearts. You will not want to miss this Advent treat. Dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. with singing in the church immediately following.
Brother Michael Gallagher is a member of the Order of St. Benedict and co-founder of Holy Cross Monastery in Beaumont, Texas. Br. Michael graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Music and from Villanova University with a J.D. in Law. He studied piano with Agi Jambor in Philadelphia and organ with Eleanor Wyatt in Massachusetts. He practiced international corporate law in Philadelphia from 1978-1988, but left his practice and entered Mt. Saviour Monastery in Elmira, NY in 1988. In 1998 Br. Michael relocated to Beaumont where, along with Brother Peter Funk, began the monastic community of Holy Cross.
