A Commitment to Mission at Home and Around the World

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Women will be holding their second annual salad luncheon on Saturday, April 30, 2011 in the Parish Hall from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Tickets are available in the church office or from members of the ECW for $12.00 each.

This event has several purposes.  The first is to promote fellowship among the churchwomen of Liberty County, and to develop contacts that will help us to work together in times of need or on projects greater than each church can accomplish separately.

Second, this year St. Stephen’s ECW is working to renew its commitment to mission and outreach.  To that end, the speaker for the luncheon will be the Reverend Debbie Daigle, and she will speak on the partnership between the Diocese of Texas and the Diocese of Southern Malawi in Africa.  Rev. Daigle has served as a missionary in Central America, and she made her first trip to Malawi in 2007.  She will be speaking about how prayer and mission can help women and families in Malawi and other African countries to improve their lives, and about how their enthusiastic faith can improve ours.  Topics will include her experiences in Malawi, as well as Nets for Life (a program to provide nets and education to prevent malaria) and Little Dresses for Africa (a program to provide dresses for orphans).  Both of these are programs in which St. Stephen’s ECW is actively participating, and we welcome participation from others.

Finally, proceeds from this luncheon will be used to fund the ECW’s outreach and mission programs, including St. James House (Episcopal retirement community), the American Red Cross, Bridgehaven Child Advocacy Center, Friends-In-Deed, Ubi Caritas health ministry in Beaumont, and Episcopal Relief and Development which provides assistance world-wide in times of disaster and great need.  We are also planning a service project for a domestic violence shelter.

Since we have limited seating, we have only 75 tickets available, so we are asking that you make plans as soon as possible to join us for this celebration of mission on Saturday, April 30.  If you have questions, you may call the church office at 936-336-3762 or Jane Brown at 936-298-1320.
